A Gift of Ghosts Review
If you are looking to spend an enjoyable afternoon with a book that is simple, easy to read but at the same time has a charming story with bit of romance and paranormal fiction, then A Gift of Ghosts by author Sarah Wynde is for you.
A Gift of Ghosts is about a scientist named Akira Malone. Even though she is a scientist, Akira has a big secret. That she can see ghosts. Not only can she see them, but some of the ghosts can actually enter her body. The only way to get them out is to physically hurt herself. This is the reason why she has a number of broken bones in her body over the years.
Whether to escape her current predicament or simply for a change, Akira takes up a job at a small town named Tassamara. She is hoping to escape the craziness of her world. She is also hoping the job would utilize her skills as a scientist more effectively.
However, from the time she reaches the town, she realizes things are quite different here. People seem to be more open to the paranormal and do not react the way you would otherwise assume.
This is where she meets her charming boss Zane, who has his own plans of why he employed Akira in the first place.
What follows is a tale that includes lots of ghosts, romance and paranormal activity. However, note that this is a book that never tries to get too dark or too serious. I loved the easy pacing of the book. It was never boring or too aggressive in its story. As I mentioned in my opening above, A Gift of Ghosts is an easy read that will leave a smile on your face in the end.
While overall I quite enjoyed the book, I do feel that some would find the story a bit too simplistic. There are never any major plot twists and even the climax of the story is not exactly a nail biting finish. However, this book never tries to project itself as anything more than a story about a woman who wishes to escape from her so called gifts but ends up finding genuine joy and harmony where she least expected.
With the amount of doom and gloom around the world and just too many dark fantasies preying at your subconscious mind well after reading, it is refreshing to read a book like A Gift of Ghosts.
I highly recommend the book to those who prefer firstly romance, secondly paranormal fiction with a number of ghosts and thirdly, a happy ending that will just make you feel good.
As for my rating, well I think I would give it 3.9 out of 5. I reserve a 4+ rating for only the exceptional books or books that have left me absolutely spellbound. Of course I did enjoy A Gift of Ghosts by author Sarah Wynde a lot. However, it probably was a bit too simple and hence my rating.
